Access to the water

  • Depending on your status, register your boat(s) online to obtain your access pass, which you can receive by mail or pick up at the Messines municipal office.
  • Before launching, you must visit the decontamination station. Once there, scan your access card on the terminal's optical reader or purchase a decontamination session.
  • Answer the questions about the lake visited, the watercraft to be decontaminated, the license plate number, etc...
  • Once you've answered the questions, the station is ready to be activated.
  • Start the wash station by pressing the start button
  • Proceed to the washing of your boat (you can refer to the demonstration videos by scanning the QR code displayed on the reference panels).
  • Once you've washed your boat, pick up your right of access (paper coupon) issued by the payment terminal. Keep this coupon in a safe place, as it will be used to open the boat ramp gate, as well as your wash certificate. Place one copy on the dashboard for inspection purposes and keep the 2nd copy in the boat with you.
  • Proceed to the boat ramp.
  • Scan the QR code on your wash certificate to open the gate and launch your boat. Be sure to keep the QR code in a safe place, as it allows you to use the coupon a second time to exit the boat.
  • To exit the boat, you'll need to bring your vehicle up to the ramp, scan your QR code (the same as when you launched it), complete the boarding procedures and finally leave the premises.

FAQ

Consult the map for the location of the decontamination station and the various public boat ramps.

First of all, the certificate confirms that you have decontaminated your boat. In addition, the certificate contains a QR code that allows access to the lake by opening the gate for launching and exiting. Your wash certificate remains active as long as you don't leave the lake.

Yes, boat decontamination is mandatory.

The municipality of Messines has adopted a by-law making it compulsory to wash boats before launching them into the water on its territory.

Boat washing and inspection is an effective way of preventing the spread of invasive alien species, and all boaters can do their part to ensure that our waterways remain healthy for future generations.

Your cooperation is essential to their protection and preservation.

You must wash your boat before each launch. As soon as the boat leaves a lake, it must be decontaminated before being put back in the water, regardless of the body of water, as long as it is located on Messines territory.

No. To ensure proper decontamination of your boat, you must use a 2600 psi pressure washer. If the pressure is lower, there's a risk that not all organisms will be dislodged. Temperature also plays an essential role. It must be at 60o Celsius at all times.

Boats stored on land bordering a body of water that have not been used on another body of water do not have to be washed when they are first launched, and this remains the case as long as your boat(s) do not leave the body of water bordering your property. As soon as it leaves the lake, the boat must be decontaminated on its return.

A resident is anyone who lives permanently (owner or tenant) or has a secondary residence in Messines. Also considered a resident is anyone who owns property (land) in Messines, as well as the resident's spouse, children and step-children.

Unless you're staying in Messines for the summer, you'll have to pay the visitor rate directly at the wash station ($25 per decontamination session). If your place of residence is on the shore of the lake on which you plan to sail, your wash certificate remains in effect as long as you don't take your boat out of the water. If, during your stay, you decide to visit other lakes, including Messines, you will have to go through the decontamination station and pay the $25 fee to obtain a new cleaning certificate.
